New Low Sulphur Regulations and Caytrans BBC Surcharge

Released: May 13, 2020

All shipping lines and carriers will soon be subject to advanced low sulphur fuel regulations on trades crossing North Europe/Baltic, US and Canada. The sulphur content in fuel has to be reduced from max. 1% to max. 0.1% which will have a significant impact on bunker costs.

To offset additional costs incurred by switching to cleaner fuels in the above mentioned emission control areas (ECA), Caytrans BBC introduces a Low Sulphur Surcharge (LSS) effective December 19, 2014.

Caytrans BBC announces today the low sulphur surcharges are as follows:

  • Break bulk US $ 8.50 w/m
  • 20  Container US $ 50.00 per container
  • 40  Container US $ 100.00 per container
