This year, team Dan-Gulf had another good showing for the Louisiana American Diabetes Association Bike ride which took place on April 20th. There were a total of 60 teams and 531 riders, and team Dan-Gulf showed up with 40 riders; including staff, vendors and friends of ours.
We had several routes to choose from this year, but most riders on our team rode the 100 or 62 milers except Lowell who finally showed up, and did a 25 miler! Joe Zehner took his car and rode 515 miles to visit his grandkids in order to avoid riding the 10 mile route, but other than that most staff showed for the ride, except our expecting mothers and the 2nd floor staff, who does not go through the same daily bike interrogation as the 3rd floor Metaire and Houston staff!
At any rate, we had a beautiful day. It was a little brisk in the morning, but we all warmed up fairly quickly. We had 16 riders who did the 100 miler and all completed the route except Cappolini, also known as Chris Cappo, who shortened the route with an excuse of a broken hip or something silly like that. Another 100 mile rider, Brandt Quick, was also missing in action. He was last seen hiding in a port-o-let at the second to last rest stop, I believe, but was later spotted in the parking lot after the first ten (all team Dan-Gulf) 100 mile riders had crossed the finish line 45 minutes earlier. Although he came in much later, we suspect he took a short cut as well, the investigation is ongoing and we will see how this case develops!
I was told that swim coach Robby showed up for his first ride with the bibs outside the bike shirt, but other than that our team looked great, and I do believe Robby discretely corrected the problem prior his next ride!
Overall, the tour collected about 160K for the good ADA cause. Team Dan-Gulf collected over 20K, which is the most money ever collected by a team in Louisiana according to a reliable ADA source. Next fundraiser for team Dan-Gulf is October 5/6 this year when we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll be riding in the Louisiana MS Bike Tour. We?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll be doing several training rides prior to that to stay fit for duty.
Again, thanks for your continued and much appreciated support!
Sincerely,
Niels Busse
